Instructions for preparing herbal decoction
The cooking pot to prepare your decoction should contain no metal unless it’s made from stainless steel. Glass, ceramic, earthenware or enamel cooking pots are suitable to use. Ceramic or clay pots should be soaked in water for 24 hours prior to use. There are also automatic cooking devices available to purchase in the clinic.
Step 1
Empty contents of one packet into the cooking pot, add 5-7 cups of cold water (or enough water to cover all the herbs) and allow to soak for 15-20 minutes.
Bring the herbs to boil and reduce to low heat, allow to simmer gently with the lid slightly ajar for approximately 45-60 minutes, or until it’s reduced down to 2 cups.
Strain the herbal liquid into a container. Do not throw away the herbs yet.
Step 2
Add 2 cups of water into the cooking pot (with the herbs from the first cooking), bring to boil again and reduce to low heat. Simmer gently until it’s reduced down to 1 cup.
Strain the herbal liquid and combine with the first 2 cups from the first cooking.
Stir and mix well the total of 3 cups herbal decoction and store in the fridge.
Drink one cup at a time in the morning and at night, just before bed of at least one hour away from your meals. Please drink it warm or at room temperature.
Repeat the same cooking process with each herbal packet.
Note: Always refer to the instructions that your practitioner provide during your consultation. These are general instructions; different herbal formulas may require special preparation.
