Qi tonic

Recommended protein: Chicken/any poultry (except duck), lean pork, abalone, other white meat.

  1. First, do an initial boil, discard the water and give the meat a cold wash. This is to get rid of any impurities, to get cleaner flavour and a clear soup. If you are using chicken or poultry meat, it is recommended to remove the skin.
  2. Add 2-3L of cold water to 300g-1kg of white meat, bring to boil and reduce to low heat. Simmer gently for 1 hour, remove scum as necessary.
  3. Add one packet of Qi tonic herbal soup mix into the pot and simmer for another hour.
  4. Add small amount of salt to your taste and enjoy. All the herbs are recommended to be eaten except for Huang Qi. Please note there are seeds/pits in the dates.

*If you are vegetarian/vegan, you may cook the herbs first (bring to boil and simmer on low heat for 1 hour), then add and cook the vegetables of your choice until they are ready.

Yang tonic

Recommended protein: Beef, oxtail, lamb, goat, other red meat.

  1. First, do an initial boil, discard the water and give the meat a cold wash. This is to get rid of any impurities, to get cleaner flavour and a clear soup.
  2. Add 2-3L of cold water to 300g-1kg of red meat, bring to boil and reduce to low heat. Simmer gently for 1 hour, remove scum as necessary.
  3. Add one packet of Yang tonic herbal soup mix into the pot and simmer for another hour.
  4. Add small amount of salt to your taste and enjoy. All the herbs are recommended to be eaten except for Huang Qi, Chen Pi, Cao Guo, Da Hui Xiang, Xiao Hui Xiang, Ding Xiang, Rou Gui. Please note there are seeds/pits in the dates.

Yin tonic

Recommended protein: White meat (e.g. lean pork, de-skinned chicken)

  1. First, do an initial boil, discard the water and give the meat a cold wash. This is to get rid of any impurities, to get cleaner flavour and a clear soup. Please remove the skin for any poultry meat as they will worsen your cough.
  2. Add 2-3L of cold water to 300g-1kg of your meat of choice, bring to boil and reduce to low heat. Simmer gently for 1 hour, remove scum as necessary.
  3. Add one packet of Yin tonic herbal soup mix into the pot and simmer for another hour.
  4. Add small amount of salt to your taste and enjoy. All the herbs in the mix are recommended to be eaten. Please note there are seeds/pits in the dates.

To cook Yin tonic soup as desert:

  1. Soak the herbs mixture in 2-3L cold water for 30minutes to 1 hour (to soften Lian Zi).
  2. Bring to boil and reduce to low heat, simmer for 1 hour.
  3. Add rock/crystal sugar to your taste and enjoy (please don’t use caster sugar as it will worsen cough or skin condition). You may also add boiled egg (peeled) into the soup.
